Another Turn of the Screw, originally published in 1898, is a novel by Henry James. The tale, which belongs to the gothic and ghost genres, first appeared serially in Collier's Weekly magazine (January 27 to April 16, 1898). In October 1898, it appeared in The Two Magics, a book published by Macmillan in New York City and by Heinemann in London. Due to its original content, Another Turn of the Screw has become a favorite among scholars who subscribe to the New Criticism. The soap opera had different interpretations, many times mutually exclusive. Many critics have tried to determine the precise nature of the evil to which the story alludes.
